Best for: teams that need more logic and control than Zapier offers, without writing custom code.

n8n

n8n is the most flexible of the three. It's open-source, can be self-hosted, and supports custom JavaScript/Python code inside workflows — making it the tool of choice for anything approaching production-grade automation.

Best for: complex, high-volume automations, teams that want full control and data ownership, AI agent integrations.

How we decide

For most client projects, we default to n8n for its flexibility and self-hosting options, and reach for Make or Zapier when a client already has significant workflows built there and switching costs outweigh the benefits.
